Celebrating & Awards

To help motivate our players, the Club has two processes for celebrating the end of each season.

  • Junior Teams (U8s – U14s)
  • Older Teams (U16s and above)

Junior Teams (U8s – U14s)

There are two awards for each junior team. These awards are presented at the end of each season and are in the form of a Medallion or Trophy. The coach and team manager should decide the best time to present these awards – this could be at the teams last game or a social function like a BBQ or dinner etc.

“Most Valuable Player” (MVP) is essentially the best & fairest for the team as determined by parents, guardians or other spectators during a game. A good definition of Most Valuable Player (MVP): Not always the best player of the game.  MVP will perform when needed, take it on when no one else can, serve towards others performing better, make sure the best players get the ball, inspire the team to perform higher. They encourage others, they are competent at giving it a go, consistent, influence team mates and encouraged them.

Each week two parents should vote for the MVP award (as per a voting rosters). Each person confidentially votes for three players – the best player of the game receives 3 points, second best 2 points and third best 1 points. The responses are collated by the the Team Manager and at the end of each season, the player with the most points will be awarded the team’s MVP.

The “Coaches Award” is for the player who best represents Ashy Basketball Club Inc. – this is intended for the player who always demonstrates good sportsmanship, always listens to the coach, and is reliable in attendance at training and games, as well as a consistent team player who assists other players rather than seeking glory on their own.

The Coach and Team Manager must discuss all players in consideration of these awards and be able to justify their selection to all parents involved with the team.

It is our intention that The Coaches Award will be the most highly prized to encourage the right attitudes and behaviour across all players in all teams.

Older Teams (U16s and above)

As the older players are not concerned with receiving a trophy or medallion, these teams are able to be reimbursed for a dinner or outing, that involves the whole team, to the value of what trophies would cost for that season. The team manager is to provide the Club with their receipt detailing their outing at the end of each season.

The Club will contact Team Managers towards the end of each season with more details about this process and will outline the details and value to which they will get reimbursed should they hold an outing. Teams that don’t celebrate together at the end of each season forfeit this money and funds are not accrued over to the next season.
